Perhaps Dimov's whole new approach to the novel, the new structure and unexpected accents in Tutun were one of the reasons why he was not understood when he appeared. Many counted the author to exotic flowers, grown and cultivated not at our fruitful cultural levels. But today it is clear that with his experience Dimitar Dimov left, but with his example supported a new trend in the national novel, extended its horizons, enriched its traditions. In Tutune, the mature thought, taste and intelligence of the moralist overcome the frightening distance between his delusions on foreign worlds and our own national historical experience, they have found their own language for our new national experience. This huge distance, the unusual parabola of this journey were also overcoming the death of the novel in intellectual dryness and wit, discovered new, not only purely plastic ways for the development of the future Bulgarian novel and for our new narrative art.
